Cops searching for answers after finding fugitive's skull in mining pit - New York Post

Researchers have linked a human skull discovered in an “active mining pit” in Pennsylvania to a fugitive in the state, reports said.

The skull of 34-year-old Jason Gold was discovered in the mine in Schuylkill County in late August, Penn Live reported.

Investigators sent the remains to a University of North Texas for DNA testing, which returned a match to Gold, who lived in nearby Lost Creek.

Authorities told the newspaper Gold had several open arrest warrants and was not reported missing to any state agencies.

Family members of Gold were also clueless about how he died or why his skull turned up in the mine, investigators said.

“Several family members were interviewed and were unable to provide further information on why Gold would have been where his body was discovered or why only his skull was discovered,” police told Penn Live.
